The Irishman
Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro at a discussion of their work at the Egyptian Theatre by Jacob Alvarez
DON’T TELL ME, SHOW ME
This is the most honest piece of advice I took from this amazing conversation. I felt lucky to have been a small piece of the audience. To hear De Niro and Scorsese just shoot the shit for almost an hour, I mean does it get better than that? Not to be a dick but I honestly find it so crazy and genuine that both of these fine men were able to recall such events that transpired during the Raging Bull and Mean Streets era. They talked of small conversations they had with friends of friends who knew a guy who introduced them and suggested they work on certain films. Thank you to De Palma. Robert was more soft spoken and kind of gave off the impression that he had better things to do, but who cares. He gets to do what he wants, no questions asked. Couple of wise guys here and man I just feel grateful to have witnessed this pair thrive. Thanks to my dad also who put me onto the films in the first place. If you want to get something done the way you want, just show you can do it. No need to say or explain what you want to do.
