A Quick Word with Motorama

Hailing from Russia, this band tears it up with post-punk riffs and a brooding voice from singer/songwriter, Vlad Parshin, who has been compared to early Joy Division. Definitely one of my favorite bands abroad, and it is amazing to see their music get attention not only here in the states but in Latin America and Asia as well. Vlad discussed a few things on my mind a few weeks ago and thought I’d share; what a swell guy during this quarantine.

Do you think music as an art form is progressing in the best way possible?

• I don’t think that there’s a progress in music as an art form. Only in some instruments and in a recording process.

How do you as a band approach making a track?

• I’m responsible for the music and lyrics, then we mix and master the track together with Max (the guitarist).

What is the story behind your song “Ghost”?

• It’s a secret…

What artists are you currently listening to?

• A Scottish band [called] “Good Weather.”

I notice photography is important to you. Speak about the importance of album art.

• We are just the same as 99% of bands and listeners, everyone loves good sleeves.

In a world plagued by negative stigmas related to mental health, how do you continue to roll with the punches?

• Drinking boiled water.
