SOLD OUT PERFORMANCE DELIVERED GUTS AND GLAMOUR

Fans packed out the intimate Observatory in Orange County Thursday night for an explosive set by Swedish rock veterans The Hives. While opening on tour for rock giants Foo Fighters, the band traded arenas and stadiums for the 1200 capacity venue, much to the delight of hardcore fans.

Frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist and co. electrified, strutting the stage with smart remarks and matching suits. The band is surely aware of the photogenic nature of their act, coming to the edges of the railing, blurring the lines between artist and audience. The set consisted majority of The Hives’ latest release The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, opening with “Bogus Operandi” and playing five other cuts. However, the show was balanced with fan favorites, such as “Walk Idiot Walk,” and “Hate to Say I Told You So.”

Each member performed as if the show was their last, without losing the touch of keeping everything light and fun. The band concluded with a three song encore, finishing strong with 2006’s The Black and White Album cut “Tick Tick Boom.” The Hives continue supporting the Foo Fighters along with Amyl and The Sniffers and Alex G in San Diego and Los Angeles.
