Squid made their way to the Belasco in Downtown Los Angeles for their final stop on the English post-punk band’s O Monolith US tour.

The stage glowed a deep red as the audience settled in for the opener: ethereal synth-pop duo Water From Your Eyes, consisting of Rachel Brown and Nate Amos. Despite Brown opening up about performance anxieties during their set, she confidently showed off her funky dance moves and sang each song with her soul.

The crowd’s energy from Water From Your Eyes’ set boiled over into Squid’s, not letting up for a moment. Post-punk is only one way to refer to Squid, but their sound and style are not to be pigeon-holed or boxed-in. From romping tracks like “Swing (In A Dream)” to smooth quirky jams like “If You Had Seen The Bull’s Swimming Attempts You Would Have Stayed Away,” the 12-song set featured a variety of styles featured on their latest album, O Monolith. Tracks like “G.S.K,” “Narrator,” and “Paddling" from their 2021 album Bright Green Field also delighted fans.
