'Flawlëss': Yeat ft. Lil Uzi Vert (on Easter)
sweltering sold out performance commanded with help from lil uzi vert
Heat. Heat was felt everywhere; below in the pit to the ceilings near both balconies. Sweat generated at an unhealthy rate as I waited in the photo pit with the likes of at least 20 other photographers/videographers. Camcorders, point and shoots, and everything in between began to thrash around as the time of the set closed in. Whispers of a Lil Uzi Vert cameo floated around but I assumed that would take place toward the end of the set if it was true. I was wrong.
Vert rushed out as the photographers rushed in, stepping over the barriers with little awareness, as everyone’s eyes were glued to the stage. Yeat and Vert went into “Flawlëss;” Yeat making the rounds back and forth while Uzi stood at the edge of the stage, looking into the ferocious crowd. Fans screamed for the entirety of the show, and even photographers were hyped, begging Uzi to take hold of their camcorders and phones for some unforgettable shots. The duo also performed “3G” and “Big tonka” with traditional transitions. I was almost happy to be out of the pit due to the unforgiving heat. I took to the left balcony and watched the crowd go berserk, enough to the point that the show had to be stopped at least twice so that fans could move back and allow breathing space for each other.
The over 30 song set featured an impromptu performance of Uzi’s hit “Just Wanna Rock,” that acted as the cherry on top. The addition of Uzi was unnecessary but beneficial to Yeat’s already credible moniker. His face kept hidden in a distressed black balaclava allowed for a mysterious yet commanding stage presence. Throughout the heatwave and actual flames being shot out from the stage periodically, the fans were in it together. I watched from the remainder of the show from the front of house which clocked in at about a little over an hour. I looked into the crowd and saw one teenager, couldn’t have been more than sixteen years old exit the sold out crowd drenched in sweat. As he made his way out, he stopped and dapped up a fellow teen who was entering the pit as to say good luck or something. Whatever the case may be, it was a sign of mutual respect and appreciation of the music that brought them together. Check out the set list here!
