LA SHOW PROVED LOUD AND SWEATY

Following the early 2023 release of Food For Worms, an album frontman Charlie Steen himself claims “the Lamborghini of Shame records,” UK post-punk outfit Shame returned to the Los Angeles; just in time for the fall heat and ready to disrobe... this was true at least for Sheen anyway; who lost his shirt and briefly gained a stray shoe about 3 songs in. After erupting into Food For Worms’ lead single “Fingers Of Steel,” the room jolted, hardly able to maintain the bursting effervescent spirit of a sold out Regent Theater. Steen maintained buoyancy as he sprung between the stage and audience, rarely letting his feet touch the ground.

Executing a perfectly balanced setlist featuring 5 songs from each of their 3 indisputably iconic records, the quintet once again commands chaos under their reign. The band’s latest, Food For Worms, embraces an aura of letting go and rejecting imposed expectations, a motif characterized by the encouraging and engaging catharsis of each live show. Released February 24th on Dead Oceans, the band’s latest record is a triumphant follow up to 2021’s Drunk Tank Pink, which cemented the band into modern rock royalty. An eager jaunt of wooly guitar riffs emphasized by and large by the slam of charmingly rickety piano, the 10-song LP champions themes of friendship, a true companion to the camaraderie on and off the stage.
