Yeule Dazzles as a 'Glitch Princess'
PAIR OF SOLD OUT LA SHOWS AT THE ECHO EXCITED
Singaporean ambient pop artist Yeule sold out two nights at The Echo in LA with a captivating show. After opening for Charli XCX on her European leg of the tour, she then embarked on her solo tour, promoting her sophomore album released on Bayonet Records, Glitch Princess. With production credits from Mura Masa and Danny L Harle, she continues to prove that she is at the forefront of ambient glitch pop.
I arrived at the venue to a line wrapped around the block full of eager fans waiting to catch the final show of the tour. It started promptly after we got into the venue and by the time the opener came on, the 350 capacity venue was filled. Michele Yue opened in a very energetic fashion, as she and her partner gave an extremely engaging performance. They both went back and forth on a turntable while simultaneously singing over the tracks. Yue would often manipulate her vocals with effects throughout the concert, making it a very dynamic experience. The crowd was incredibly into it and gave them loud applause on their way out.
Shortly after, Yeule appeared on stage. Fans were immediately awestruck by her outfit, wearing custom pieces from the likes of Sonia Trefilova, Corlatex, and Sho Konishi! She opened her set by playing “Pixel Affection,” a dreamy ambient song that questions the unstable nature of the digital world. After a few tracks, she thanked the crowd for selling out two nights, singling some fans who she recognized for coming two nights in a row.
She then moved to pick up her guitar (a beautiful white telecaster) to perform “Eva,” which was a beautiful slow tempo track with angelic-like vocals. It was so beautiful getting to see her perform and give it her all as she ran around the stage embracing the audience. Her set came to a close with the electronic song “Bites on my Neck,” which had the crowd's energy at its peak. Everyone danced around to the energetic beat. Yeule quickly came back for an encore as the fans cheered on for one more song which ended up being “Mandy.” Check out the setlist here!!
