Celebrating Anniversaries with Beach Fossils & Wild Nothing

BANDS CLOSED OUT THEIR “OUT IN THE WAY TOUR” WITH TWO SOLD OUT SHOWS IN LA

Listening to a lot of indie music, odds are you have come across both Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing. These indie pop bands share musical tendencies, therefore a lot of fans overlap which made for the perfect tour.

Beach Fossils celebrated their 10 year anniversary of What a Pleasure this year while both bands commemorated the 11 year anniversaries of their debut albums, Fossils with their self-titled and Wild Nothing with Gemini.

Local LA group The Red Pears kicked off the last show with an aggressive set, igniting mini mosh pits. With each chord being played to introduce the next song, fans cheered which was a bit surprising but refreshing. Most shows you attend, people are at the bar ordering their drinks while the opener is playing their heart out so to see an actual fan base at the venue was nice. I think if The Red Pears had an extended set, the show could have ended there with a satisfied audience.

However, Wild Nothing took the stage second, playing nostalgia-inducing hits mixed with newer tracks from their latest LP, Indigo. Mastermind Jack Tatum showed much enthusiasm as well as graciousness for getting to tour with Beach Fossils and to end the performance at a historic venue such as the Wiltern.

After their set, Dustin Payseur and the rest of Beach Fossils were welcomed to a dark room full of energetic fans. “Night two at the Wiltern, let’s go,” chanted Payseur before strumming the intro to “The Year” which kicks off their 2017 record Somersault. This immediately got the very front crowd circling a pit. The band went through their hits as well and eventually brought out Wild Nothing to perform their collaborative track “Out in the Way” which the tour takes its name from. Clairo also joined on stage while photographer and director Adrian Nieto shot the performance. It was a chill night to catch up with old friends, meet fellow fans, and listen to arguably two of the biggest indie pop bands of the 2010s.
